Creating and Using a Globus Personal Endpoint

Install Globus Connect Personal

Download and install the Mac, Linux, or Windows version from the globus.org website, following instructions on the website. Note that the Globus website generates a "Setup Key", and during the installation process, this Setup Key must be entered when prompted for it. (On Linux, if a "Security Code" is required, enter the Setup Key for it.)

Create an Endpoint

the Preferences window, one or more directories that should be included in the endpoint can be selected. Once this is done, click "Save" (on Linux) or just close the Preferences window (on Mac), then click "Connect" in the main window (if necessary). The Windows installation process does allow this selection to be made during installation — if it needs to be changed later, that can be done through Options... → Access from the main menu.

Use Your Endpoint

To use the personal endpoint just made, "globusconnect" must be running. This is the same script that was used to install it and can be started from the command line or through a menu, depending on what system you're using. On Linux, this means that the above window must be open, and have a status of Connected, to use the personal endpoint. On other systems, the Globus icon must be in the menu of running applications and have a status of Connected.
