GrADS

Overview

  • GrADS: The Grid Analysis and Display System (GrADS) is an interactive desktop tool that is used for easy access, manipulation, and visualization of earth science data.

Using

Use the module name grads to discover versions available and required dependencies to load the application.

Running the actual grads command opens a window - thus we recommend using this application via an OnDemand Interactive Desktop.

This appears to be an old application, since the documentation page states “last updated 14 December 2015”.

For example, provided binaries were built with RHEL 6.4 and state “None of these builds are guaranteed to work on modern systems.“. We will try and resolve any issues to our best effort but with no guarantees.

We are aware with the current version on Beartooth of the following message when loading the module:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following dependent module(s) are not currently loaded: expat/2.4.8 (required by: python/3.10.6) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We need users to test this further to understand how much of an impact this has, and then report back to us.

Multicore

At this stage we are not aware if the various grads related commands can use multiple cores. If users know how to do this, please contact us and we will update this page, with any provided examples, to demonstrate how.
