New HPC Cluster (working name: Thunderer)
Thunderer is a major addition to ARCC’s primary HPC cluster environment. The expansion will replace ARCC’s primary HPC environment, Beartooth. Hardware specifications for the expansion are listed in the following table:
Allocations | #Nodes | Cores / | RAM | GPU | GPUs / Node | Processor | TensorCores/GPU & CUDACores/GPU |
CPU | 25 | 96 CPU Cores per Node
| 1024GB/Node | N/A | N/A | 2x 48-Core/96-Thread 4th Gen AMD EPYC 9454
| N/A |
A30 GPU | 8 | 768GB/Node | Nvidia A30 | 8 | 224 TC/GPU
L40S GPU | 5 | 768GB/Node | Nvidia L40S | 8 | 568 TC/GPU
H100 GPU | 6 | 1.5TB/Node | Nvidia SXM5 H100 | 8 | 528 TC/GPU |
Hardware from Beartooth that remains viable (e.g. less than 8 years old) may moved into the new cluster. If you are an investor or have a concern, please contact arcc-help@uwyo.edu. A complete list of hardware that will be available in the new cluster will be available soon.
Data Storage Upgrades
The new Vast data storage system will go live on June 1st, 2024. This storage system is comprised of high speed all-NVMe storage housing 3 petabytes of raw storage. The VAST storage system also employs data de-duplication which will allow the system to logically store much more than the 3PB petabytes raw available on the system.
Users should notice minimal changes with respect to how they access and use their data storage on Alcova and TetonCreek (Beartooth) today.
Specific details for the new storage system will be available soon.
