Also known as 2FA, two factor authentication is a type of multi-factor authentication (MFA). MFA confirms a user's claimed identity by using multiple separate components that fall into the following general categories:

  • Something you know (e.g. your password)

  • Something you posses (e.g. a bank card)

  • Something you are (e.g. your finger print)
