Users may request the use of ARCC’s HPC resources to host short courses, trainings or workshops. Often these requests may include several pieces outlined below. ARCC Users may request a workshop or training by e-mailing arcc-help@uwyo.edu with their request or filling out a general request for research computing support via our portal.

As you prepare to host a training on our HPC resources, ARCC is here to make the process easy and break things down with documentation to answer your questions and provide direction. Review our Workshop Host Responsibilities, Workshop Checklist, and Hosting a Workshop/Training: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Please review the following pages to gain a full understanding of what goes into a workshop or training on an HPC before submitting a request.

Timeframe

Please include a timeframe for your training/workshop and any times at which you would like to perform testing beforehand.

Hardware Requirements

If the workshop requires hardware prerequisites, ARCC would need to verify the hardware is available, and if so, those hardware resources may need to be requested and reserved for a point in time with which your training/workshop is taking place.

Project Creation

A project creation will be required if the workshop or training will be using any HPC resources. Please provide the following information:

  • A project/workshop name

  • The name of the PI/Instructor affiliated with UW and their contact information

  • Department of affiliation

  • Project abstract

  • Please also provide information indicating which ARCC HPC resources you will need access to. These include but are not limited to:

    • Beartooth

    • Wildiris

    • Loren

    • Alcova

    • Pathfinder

    • Muskat

    • Gitlab

Software Requests

If the workshop requires specific software to run on the cluster, this would be required in the request and may require installation and/or configuration on the cluster.

We ask for:

  • License information (if any)

  • Where (on which ARCC resources) the software should be installed

  • Which libraries will be necessary - those used along side a specific programming language

  • Software version

  • Dependencies

  • Link(s) to the software source

Number of Users and Account Types

Total User Count

Please provide information on how many students and total users are planned to attend the workshop/training and how many users are planned to access HPC resources during the training.

External Trainers/External Collaborators

If any external users will be doing training and will not be physically on campus, they will likely require an external collaborator account.

Note that external collaborator accounts are subject to a one-time 10$ charge from UW IT.

  • Name

  • E-mail

  • External organization

  • Phone number
