A new way to request service and/or help (10 October 2022)

Starting on 10 October, ARCC will be using a new portal for requesting services.

...

UWIT’s ticketing system will no longer be used for ARCC related requests.

...

arcc-help@uwyo.edu can still be used to request help or info from ARCC and will open a ticket in our ticketing system.

...

arcc-info@uwyo.edu will be temporarily redirected to arcc-help@uwyo.edu. arcc-info@uwyo.edu will be retired entirely in May 2023.

Upcoming major changes to ARCC services (19 September 2022)

ARCC’s computational services will be undergoing several changes that will affect users. Major changes of note are the retirement of the Teton HPC environment and replacement with Beartooth, and a change in how service is requested from ARCC. More details can be found here.

NWSC Allocations Available (19 April 2022)

Research allocations on Cheyenne, the NCAR Wyoming supercomputer, are available to UW researchers working in eligible research areas. A discussion of the types of allocations along with tips for preparing allocation requests, is available on the NWSC University Allocation page. The next deadline for large allocations will be in early Summer, expect to see the announcement in early May on the UW website: http://www.uwyo.edu/nwsc/allocations/

Here are the details for the next round of Large Allocation Requests for using NWSC:

  • Large allocation request submission deadline: June 6th, 2022 (Monday) by midnight

  • Proposed WRAP Review Meeting Dates: June 27th – 30th, 2022.

  • Proposed Award Date: July 8th, 2022, with projects starting by August 2022.

ARCC is happy to assist you in preparing your proposal and get an early jump in benchmarking your codes and building a well-justified, competitive request. Reach out directly to arcc-help@uwyo.edu to start planning your submission.

ARCC Student Research Programmers

The University of Wyoming Advanced Research Computing Center (ARCC) is looking for enthusiastic students with outstanding work ethic to fill a range of paid and for-credit internship positions.

Students will participate in academic and industry work, depending on their area of study and available projects, such as biomedical computing, computational biology, geophysics, chemistry, statistics, big data management, machine learning, cluster management, and others.

Some background in programming is desirable, but students with strong knowledge of a domain science (biology, physics, chemistry) will be considered if programming experience is lacking.

Training in cluster computing and advanced programming will be provided. Both undergraduate and graduate level positions are available. Undergrads will be expected to work 10 hours per week, grads will be expected to work 20 hours per week, both with very competitive hourly salaries.

Come gain valuable skills to help you stand out of the crowd on the job market!

Contact lmainzer@uwyo.edu to submit your resumé and set up an appointment.

We need your feedback: April 12,2024

ARCC is planning a week long set of workshops titled: Research Computing & HPC Essentials - (Getting started with ARCC's services)
This will include a number of workshops covering the following subjects:

Intro to Linux, Intro to High Performance Computing, and ARCC Services including SouthPass (Beartooth HPC via your web browser), Data Transfers, and Using Python/R in High Performance Computing.

Attendees have the option to sign up for any workshops they'd like to attend.  This can be the entire week, or a subset of workshops in which they are most interested.

We're trying to gauge when this will be most useful for campus, and have two sets of dates in mind:

  • The week prior to Semester starting: August 19-23, 2024

  • The second week after semester has started: September 9-13, 2024.

We'd like to hear which timeframe is better suited for anyone interested in attending. Interested parties may provide feedback through this web form.
