Beartooth HPC Performance Issues: April 12, 2024

ARCC became aware of an issue affecting use and performance on the Beartooth HPC cluster. To prevent further issues, jobs have been halted. Any jobs that were running on the Beartooth cluster this morning at 10:40am will need to be restarted.

Beartooth HPC Performance Issues: April 3, 2024

ARCC System Administrators became aware of an issue affecting use and performance on the Beartooth HPC cluster. To prevent further issues, we have halted jobs. Any jobs that were running and not completed on the Beartooth cluster as of 3:40pm this afternoon will need to be restarted.

Maintenance is scheduled January 8-12, 2024 (completed January 11, 2024):
Datacenter infrastructure is scheduled for maintenance the week of January 8th, 2024. All UW ARCC resources, including but not limited to any HPC cluster access, Pathfinder and Alcova storage, and miscellaneous services will be subject to significant downtime this week beginning at 8am on January 8th. IT Datacenter Network Maintenance Scheduled November 6, 2023 - Extended though November 7, 2023

Maintenance Notice (posted 12 Oct 2023 - Updated 1 Nov 2023 - Updated 6 Nov 2023)

Nov 6 Update: Data center network infrastructure was upgraded November 6th, however Beartooth is experiencing network issues and may be subject to network interruptions tomorrow (November 7th, 2023).

Data center network infrastructure is planned for upgrade November 6th. With this in mind, network switches feeding connections to ARCC HPC Resources, and access to those resources will be subject to significant downtime all day Monday, November 6, 2023.

Following November 6 scheduled maintenance, the singularity module which was previously auto loaded when users log into Beartooth will no longer be auto loaded, and users will need to perform a module load singularity/<version> before being able to use the singularity container software.

Please plan to perform any work in connection with these resources outside of maintenance.

OnDemand Maintenance Scheduled October 6, 2023

ARCC Infrastructure Team will be performing maintenance on all OnDemand resources this week beginning Friday, October 6, 2023. Maintenance is expected to begin at 1:00pm MST and continue through the afternoon until completion. On-Demand ARCC services will be offline at the scheduled time including access to all web-available resources at https://southpass.arcc.uwyo.edu. Please plan to perform your work on on-demand services outside the maintenance time scheduled this Friday.

UW ARCC Aims to Widen UW Exposure to HPC (posted 6 July 2023)

Many UW students aren’t provided with an obvious avenue in which to explore High Performance Computing during their path as a student. In order to make HPC more accessible, UW ARCC has created a new project on Beartooth. This project is intended to meet the needs of students who do not have a PI under which they may perform research on ARCC HPC resources.

  • This new project is accessible now (Effective: July 6, 2023) and has been named The Gannett Peak Project.

    • Students who request access to this project will be granted access to the Beartooth HPC cluster under Principal Investigator and Director of Research Computing, Dr. Liudmila Mainzer.

    • Any UW Student may request access through our service portal.

Maintenance Scheduled for June 12-16, 2023 (posted 10 May 2023)

Maintenance Notice (posted 10 May 2023)

Beartooth maintenance is scheduled for June 12-16, 2023.  During this maintenance window, ARCC will be updating system software to Redhat version 8.7, updating to the latest version of SLURM, and performing hardware maintenance as needed.

During this time, the Beartooth cluster as a whole will be unavailable. This includes storage, Southpass web access, and Globus file access. Users should arrange to complete all Beartooth related jobs and access data outside the maintenance window.

Globus V5 Upgrade Announcement (posted 2 May 2023)

If you’ve created a bookmark or shared a collection to a UW ARCC Teton endpoint, you will need to re-create and/or re-share using one of the new endpoints. Instructions are available here.
Old v4 endpoints are scheduled to be decommissioned May 31st, 2023.

ARCC-info retired (posted 16 February 2023)

The arcc-info@uwyo.edu address has officially been replaced by ARCChelp. However, there was a delay that was beyond ARCC’s control that may have resulted in some recent emails being lost. If you emailed arcc-info on or after the 6th of Feb, please resend the email to arcchelp@uwyo.edu

Cooling Infrastructure Upgrade (posted 6 February 2023)

Beginning 8 February, UW IT’s Datacenter will begin a project to upgrade liquid cooling infrastructure for Beartooth. Additional information and updated time frames can be found here.

Teton and Beartooth are down for maintenance. Beartooth will return to service on 9 January. Teton will be retired. Further information is available here: .

ARCC won’t hold office hours this week. We are still available through our service portal, however. (week of 19th December 2022)

A new way to request service and/or help (posted 10 October 2022)

Starting on 10 October, ARCC will be using a new portal for requesting services.

Upcoming major changes to ARCC services (posted 19 September 2022)

ARCC’s computational services will be undergoing several changes that will affect users. Major changes of note are the retirement of the Teton HPC environment and replacement with Beartooth, and a change in how service is requested from ARCC. More details can be found here.
