Proposed Job Queue Policy Changes

Our team is proposing some changes to the job scheduler policy for Medicinebow based on feedback from our users and we plan to implement this during our maintenance window starting January 6th, 2025.
The purpose of this change is 4-fold:
Discourage overuse of cluster resources by a single user or research group
Incentivize funded research
Incentivize investment into HPC resources
Spur innovation by maintaining our already free HPC services to the UW community
The changes result in some differences to how cluster users request HPC resources to run their computations. We hope to encourage good HPC practices for more efficient computations run on the cluster, shorter job queue wait-times. Proposed changes are detailed here, on our website.
