Datacenter Cooling Infrastructure Upgrade
Overview
UW IT Datacenter has planned a critical infrastructure upgrade to increase overall power load available on Beartooth beginning Wednesday February 8th, 2023. This upgrade is necessary as we move forward to house new generations of equipment and should reduce energy consumed for cooling.
Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns at arcc-help@uwyo.edu
Scheduled Work
This work is tentatively scheduled for completion in two parts and should not impact operations:
February 8th through March 3rd:
Current liquid cooling in the datacenter will be turned off to perform the upgrade and the datacenter will fall back to air cooling during this time.
Liquid cooling is scheduled to be back online by March 3rd.
May 5th through June 15th:
Racks housing Beartooth will have their liquid cooling systems upgraded to increase power load capacity for future node upgrades.
Again, we anticipate no impacts to ARCC computational services during these time frames. If we run into problems during the upgrade, Beartooth may run at a diminished capacity. To mitigate complications, parts of the cluster may be shut down to maintain data center temperature requirements.
